February 2, World Wetlands Day Audio and Video Clip

February 2nd , 13 of Bahman is recognized as the world wetlands day.
A common definition for wetlands is what has been mentioned on world wetlands convention (Ramsar Convention): wetlands are areas of land where covers with marshes, lagoons, and swamps or it may be temporary or permanent natural or artificial reservoirs which contains salty or sweet water that would find static or dynamic. The importance of the wetlands are for saving the water, protecting us in the time of flood and reducing the impact of that, protect our shores from waves, absorb pollutants, improve water quality, and provide habitat for animals and plants.
Out of 42 specified wetlands in the world Ramsar convention (except one type of wetland which is Tourabzar), 41 types of wetlands are found in Iran and it’s due to Iran’s wetlands diversity. Iran has 3% of the world wetlands and in total has 2800 wetlands. Out of all these wetlands 94 are well known and 25 wetlands are registered as international wetlands.
Some of the most important wetlands in Iran are: Alagol, Amagol, Aji Gol, Amir Kalayeh, Anzali, Fereydunkenar, Azbaran and Sorkhroud, Gavkhuni, Hamoun Saberi, Hamoun Hirmand, Urmia, Shadegan, Khour alamiyeh, Khour Mousa. Continue reading
