World Humanitarian Day was designated by the United Nations on August 19, 2009 to strengthen the coordination of UN emergency assistance.
This day marks the day on which the (Sergio Vieira De Mello ) UN Secretary-General in Iraq and 21 of his colleagues were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad.
