The united and cohesive protests of the American workers in 1200 factories and workshops on May 1, 1886 and their demand for a reduction of the daily working hours from 14 to 8 hours, led to a great change in the work and employment status of the workers. On May 4, 1886 in the fourth day of the protest of American workers in Chicago, police opened the fire on protesters and killed and injured many of them, and four persons were executed, and since then, May 1, in honor of those whom were killed, named the International Worker’s Day.
Some of the main problems of the workers in the world are: the lack of independent workers organizations, temporary employments contracts, transparency of employments contracts, unemployment insurance, non compliance with the basic salary, discrimination in employment based on religion, belief, race, gender and family background. Every year, in order to attract public attentions to the workers problems, May 1 (International Worker’s Day) is celebrating in many countries, including Iran. But, in recent years, the International Worker’s Day has been accompanied by popular protests and worker’s activists, therefore, suppression, detention, torture and imprisonment has been occurred by regime of Islamic Republic of Iran.
