According to the statistic of international amnesty, death sentence is illegal in 106 countries (for example in USA; in 10 states is completely forbidden) and in 7 countries is legal only in special circumstances (for example at wars). In 29 countries it is part of the law but haven’t been carried out for more than 10 years and is not going to be done according to the formal policy of these countries. And in the rest (56 countries) is part of the constitution. It is a shame that death sentence is legal in Iran and it has been carried out in different forms and needless to say that Iran is on the top of this list.
Death sentence is not logical, because due to judgmental mistakes, one’s life can be taken away. For fighting against the death sentence there has been a new wave called ‘’don’t execute the Cain’’. UN’s resolutions in 2007 and 2008 was approved in order to prevent Iran from death penalties. In these resolutions beside of emphasizing on stopping death penalties has been mentioned that the offender as a human being has the right to live and the lawmakers have no right to take that from them. In 1966 the government of Iran signed the international convention on civil and politics rights and on May of 1975 approved that unconditionally. However hasn’t signed the current protocol and hasn’t joined it. Crimes which have death sentences in Islamic republic of Iran are political crimes, murdering, raping, sexual harassment of children, sodomy, repeating of actions ( drug dealing, arm robbery, kidnapping). Unfortunately Iran is on the top list of execution of teenagers under the age of 18 and it should be mentioned that in the Islamic constitution with testimony of 50 persons or 10 proxies a death penalty can be issued. From the beginning of 2018 up to now almost 10 political prisoners have been executed. To name just a few; Mohamad Salas, Ramin Hosein Panahi, Zaniar Moradi and Loghman Moradi. Unofficial statistics have reported that more than 1700 prisoners in Iran are in the list of death penalty and according to the article 3 of human’s rights everybody has the right to live. Everyone has the right to be free and secured. According to the UNESCO`s 2030 agenda, having a healthy life, promoting of peaceful communities and denial of violence are everybody’s rights. But unfortunately in Islamic republic of Iran’s constitution there is no place for the right of living and even in laws of crimes the death penalty is principle. We hope that there comes a day that no one will be executed any more.
