The purpose of this day is to emphasize the importance of the cities condition and basic human rights for having a shelter and reminder of the world collective responsibility to provide the housing for the future generation. Every year a special theme is considered for this day. The importance of the urban public spaces and passages has made the United Nations to this year focus on the theme of public spaces for everyone. The paragraph one of the articles 25 in Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasized that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
It should be noted, of course for protection of this right every government needs some equipment and supplies. For example, the government should create a condition that people can work and they must be able to get housing which they need. Due to the high importance of the right to housing, this specific right has been clearly mentioned in many conventions such as Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, Convention on the Rights of Child, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and in another side more than Fifty Countries has add the right to housing freedom in their constitution. In chapter three of the constitution of Iran at the part of (The Rights of the Nation) in article of Thirty three is clearly emphasized on the right of housing for every individual and every Iranian family and obliges the government to provide the house and give the priority to those who are most indeed especially villagers and workers.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 2030 UNESCO Agenda and constitution of Islamic Republic of Iran all emphasized on respect and protection of human rights and we are seeing the auditing and opinions of the various experts on housing, livelihood and welfare but unfortunately the weakness of the government to implement these laws in society is visible. With respect to the economical unknown condition of Iran to have a home for every family and individual day by day is more difficult and it’s become a dream for them. Still we are waiting and looking forward to see the government authorities whether will find way and solution to be able to solve this problem.
