{"id":16377,"date":"2026-03-04T20:09:02","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.bashariyat.org\/?p=16377"},"modified":"2026-03-04T20:09:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:09:02","slug":"statement-1656-by-the-defense-of-womens-rights-committee-on-from-protest-to-disappearance-what-happened-to-the-detainees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.bashariyat.org\/?p=16377","title":{"rendered":"Statement 1656 by the Defense of Women`s Rights Committee on From Protest to Disappearance: What Happened to the Detainees?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/english.bashariyat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1.jpg\" width=\"551\" height=\"105\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>From Protest to Disappearance: What Happened to the Detainees?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ambiguity Regarding the Fate of the January 2026 Detainees:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The protests of January 2026 emerged amidst structural deadlock, a livelihood crisis, political gridlock, and a collapse of public trust.<\/p>\n<p>Field evidence shows that instead of political accountability, a security approach\u2014including lethal violence, mass arrests, internet shutdowns, and covert operations\u2014was adopted.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This path has not only failed to solve the crisis but has deepened it.<\/p>\n<p>Due to a lack of transparency, statistics vary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Official Iranian Government Figures: 3,117 killed.<\/li>\n<li>HRANA News Agency: 7,015 confirmed deaths; 11,744 other cases under investigation.<\/li>\n<li>The Guardian: Estimated between 3,000 to 3,650 deaths.<\/li>\n<li>Regarding arrests, estimates exceed 50,000 people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is reported that students, union activists, women, and individuals under 18 are among the detainees.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, thousands remain in a state of &#8220;incommunicado&#8221; (no information), and families are unaware of their loved ones&#8217; whereabouts.<\/p>\n<p>The Missing and Detainees with No Information:<\/p>\n<p>Several thousand people are in a state of &#8220;unaccounted for&#8221; status.<\/p>\n<p>Families have no information on the location of their loved ones and are under security pressure to remain silent.<\/p>\n<p>According to human rights definitions, this situation constitutes Enforced Disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>Fate of the Detainees (Based on the Islamic Republic&#8217;s Track Record):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scenario 1: Conditional release and case fabrication.<\/li>\n<li>Scenario 2: Heavy judicial sentences.<\/li>\n<li>Scenario 3: Continued isolation and psychological pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Scenario 4: Death in custody (based on past precedents: risk of torture, mistreatment, alleged suicide, or cardiac arrest).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Let Us Be the Voice of the Missing Protesters:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With approximately two months passing since the protests of January 7 and 8, 2026, serious ambiguities remain regarding the status and burial locations of some victims, especially women.<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that in some cases, bodies were buried without informing the families, or conflicting and incomplete information was provided regarding the cause of death and burial site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Universal Declaration of Human Rights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article 1: All are born free and equal.<\/li>\n<li>Article 2: Freedom from discrimination.<\/li>\n<li>Article 3: Right to life.<\/li>\n<li>Article 5: Prohibition of torture and inhumane treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Article 19: Right to freedom of expression.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article 19: Equal rights regardless of ethnicity or race.<\/li>\n<li>Article 27: Freedom of assembly and marches.<\/li>\n<li>Article 38: Prohibition of torture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-16280\" class=\"clearfix post post-16280 type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-announcements item-wrap\">\n<div class=\"entry clearfix\">\n<div class=\"entry-content clearfix\">\n<p data-start=\"4069\" data-end=\"4151\"><strong data-start=\"4069\" data-end=\"4113\">Defense of Human Rights Association in Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4069\" data-end=\"4151\"><strong>Defense of Women`s Rights Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4069\" data-end=\"4151\">Translated by Alireza Jahan Bin<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Protest to Disappearance: What Happened to the Detainees?
