Yet the real numbers are significantly higher than the officially recorded cases, many of which are never even reported.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"545\">So-called &#8220;honor killings&#8221; are not just isolated individual crimes\u2014they are the product of silence, the absence of protective laws for women, flawed legislation, and a deeply rooted patriarchal culture.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"793\">According to reports from domestic media and human rights organizations, <strong data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"719\">67 honor killings were recorded in Iran in the first quarter of the year 1404 (March, June 2025)<\/strong>: 19 in Farvardin, 27 in Ordibehesht, and 21 from early Khordad to July 8.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"793\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"1012\">These murders, mostly committed by male relatives of the victims such as fathers, husbands, or close kin\u2014once again expose the horrifying face of <strong data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"1011\">systemic violence, femicide, and the vulnerability of women in Iran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1014\" data-end=\"1214\">Behind these acts of violence, we sometimes hear the voices of women as well: mothers, mothers-in-law, or older female relatives who, intentionally or not, participate in reinforcing misogynistic norms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1472\">Let us not forget: <strong data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1328\">existing statistics reveal only a fraction of the bitter reality of gender-based violence<\/strong>, a reality in which women\u2019s lives are increasingly under constant threat from patriarchal traditions, unequal power structures, and legal voids.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1834\"><strong data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1585\">These are not accidents. They are the result of lawlessness and the government\u2019s neglect of women\u2019s rights.<\/strong><br data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1588\" \/>The Islamic Republic of Iran, through its persistence in discriminatory laws, its failure to criminalize domestic violence explicitly, and its inability to ensure women&#8217;s safety, bears <strong data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1833\">direct responsibility for the spread of these atrocities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"2053\">The silence of the judiciary, the repression of women\u2019s rights activists, the absence of support services, and the erasure of victims\u2019 voices from official media all contribute to <strong data-start=\"2016\" data-end=\"2052\">the perpetuation of these crimes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"2060\" data-end=\"2135\">The Dark Shadow of Femicide: Painful Reports of Women\u2019s Murders in 1404<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2314\">According to official statistics published recently, <strong data-start=\"2190\" data-end=\"2313\">at least 85 women and girls were murdered by male relatives during the first quarters of the years 1401, 1402, and 1403<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2358\">Here are some examples from 1404 (2025):<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2359\" data-end=\"2567\">\n<li data-start=\"2359\" data-end=\"2409\">\n<p data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2409\"><strong data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2380\">Fatemeh Soltani<\/strong> \u2013 Islamshahr, 28 Farvardin<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2410\" data-end=\"2458\">\n<p data-start=\"2412\" data-end=\"2458\"><strong data-start=\"2412\" data-end=\"2431\">Golab Faramarzi<\/strong> \u2013 Dalahoo, 8 Ordibehesht<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2459\" data-end=\"2513\">\n<p data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2513\"><strong data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2484\">Fatemeh Barkhordari<\/strong> \u2013 Sabzevar, 10 Ordibehesht<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2514\" data-end=\"2567\">\n<p data-start=\"2516\" data-end=\"2567\"><strong data-start=\"2516\" data-end=\"2534\">Mobina Kandabi<\/strong> \u2013 Bandar-e-Gaz, 17 Ordibehesht<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2644\">In Khordad 1404 (June 2025), two particularly shocking cases were reported:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"3185\">\n<li data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"2889\">\n<p data-start=\"2648\" data-end=\"2889\"><strong data-start=\"2648\" data-end=\"2665\">Solmaz Abbasi<\/strong>, a well-known volleyball coach and sports figure in Urmia, was stabbed to death by her husband while visiting her lawyer\u2019s office to follow up on her divorce. The perpetrator attempted suicide after committing the murder.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"3185\">\n<p data-start=\"2892\" data-end=\"3185\">In the same month, <strong data-start=\"2911\" data-end=\"2929\">Ashkan Hemmati<\/strong>, a 29-year-old man, entered his father-in-law\u2019s house in Kermanshah with a firearm and shot his wife <strong data-start=\"3031\" data-end=\"3049\">Samira Farhadi<\/strong> and her two sisters.
