This day was named in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly in order to support the freedom of expression. The naming of this day is because of the achievements which so far it has been achieved and given to the human beings. The message of World Press Freedom Day to the human societies, the freedom of press is as the result of the tireless struggles of thinkers who in the recent centuries has worked with love and passions for freedom, liberation from the captivity and help to the human beings and in some case, they have lost their lives in this way. One of the important duty of the press is to provide useful and accurate information to the community and improve the community awareness about the developments and changes around the world by analyzing the national and international situations, they will provide the right judgment for the people. 74% of the world journalists are live in the countries where journalists are severely suppressed and Iran also is one of that. Unfortunately, at the present due to the lack of freedom of expression and freedom of speech in Iran, our country is one of the first and biggest enemies of press freedom and has become one of the (world’s biggest prisons) for the journalists and media activists.
